Night had fallen and the four friends had retired to their own rooms after being assured that Lord John Roxton was truly alright after his run-in with his dark side. But sleep did not come easily for two of them.

Marguerite Krux slipped out from beneath her blanket, put her satin robe on, and quietly padded out to the deck. It was dark. As she stared out into the jungle, she heard nothing but the soft calls of unseen nocturnal creatures.

A low voice disturbed the tranquil air. "Couldn't sleep either?"

She turned to find that Roxton had snuck up behind her. She opened her mouth but merely shook her head.

Silence surrounded them as they stood next to each other, leaning over the railing.

"What if..." Marguerite began. "What if she hadn't have let you... what if..." She stopped, a tear running down her cheek.

Roxton turned to her. "I'm here, Marguerite. There aren't any 'what if's' to worry about."

Quietly nodding, she looked into his eyes. "You know I... I..."

He reached up, cupping her cheek with his hand, wiping away her tears with a gentle caress of his thumb and smiled. "You don't have to say it," he smiled. "I know."

Pressing her face against his hand, she whispered, "I want to say it. I just don't know how."

Roxton leaned in and brushed her lips with his. "You'll know when it's the right time."

Marguerite pulled back slightly. "How do you always know the right things to say?"

Sure to keep contact with her, Roxton tangled his fingers in her thick, dark hair. "Because I love you," he whispered.

Her eyes opened wide and before she could think of a response, Roxton was pressing his lips to hers and she was happily returning the gesture.

Veronica had woken up thirsty. She stopped in the doorway upon seeing Marguerite and Roxton. In the shadows of the tree house, she smiled outwardly for them. After everything they had been through, the differences they had overcome, they had still managed to find their way to each other and Veronica was truly happy for them. Inwardly, however, she missed Ned now more than ever. She returned to her bedroom, picked up her picture of Ned, and softly cried. "We will find you, Ned. *I* will find you if it's the last thing I do." Placing a soft kiss on the glass, she lay back on her bed and dreamed of finding him.
