Cult Times talked to Rachel Blakely,
an Australian actress and former model who plays Marguerite Krux, the mysterious funder of the Challenger expedition, who
has a soft spot for a certain Lord John Roxton.
Surprised to be back for another season?
Definitely. I never really expected to be back, to tell you the
truth. I think that's the mind of an actor; we always think the worst...and we're at least slightly pessimistic until it does
happen.
How has the show changed?
The show is certainly more character based than it was when we started...They
are exploring the relationships between the characters rather than having ..outside experiences...the whole story. We still
have outside civilizations and people coming in to touch our little world, but they don't seem to have such an impact.
What do you prefer to work on?
Personally, I would much rather have a two-hand conversation about
how Marguerite is feeling than one about a raptor.
What are your thoughts on Marguerite?
There's plenty we don't know about Marguerite...her family and what
happened there. As a character, Marguerite has become a little softer. I don't believe you can keep going...and not be affected
by other people around you. [however] I still want to be a bitch, basically. I still want things to come out of her mouth
that people go "I can't believe she just said that to that poor man."
What is Marguerite like?
Marguerite is sexy as hell, the dark beauty to...Veronica. I don't
mind being cartoonish, but I don't think Marguerite is ever going to look like a cartoon. I've seen a lot of use of sexuality
in terms of the characters, though. It's always been a part of her wild side, and what she uses to get what she wants.
Your thoughts on The Lost World?
I have to say that The Lost World has been, by
far, the best of my experiences on a set. I'm not saying that because it's the job I'm doing at the moment. I had a wonderful
time doing Tales of the South Seas. But there's something special about The Lost World.
I love playing Marguerite and there's so much more they can do with her, though I'm certainly not bored with her. I have a
job where I love to live and I play a character I can still explore. And there is something special about the cast dynamic.
To still enjoy each other's company and seek each other out on set for conversation, that's pretty rare after four years.
What is being Marguerite like for you?
[Now that she is back in Australia and TLW is finally airing there]
I'm beginning to get recognized at the supermarket again. I was very well known over here because of Neighbors
and it's interesting getting recognized for something else. It's a totally different age group, too.
Thanks to Ian Spelling for reporting, and I certainly enjoyed
reading it, as I hope you did! Here's to a long and successful run of this great show!
